The Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) was established as a statutory body under the Presidential Order 27 of 26 March 1972. Rather, their performance marked continuous deterioration, which called for the necessity of privatization of jute industry of the 77 nationalized jute mills, 35 mills were transferred to their original owners in between 1982-1983, leaving the rest to continue under BJMC.

Presently BJMC has an installed loom capacity of over 13,000 of which around 70-75 % remain in operation.

Jnder the supervision of the Research Division of BJMC oil free yarg of 60 count has been produced as insulating material for use in the electronic industry.

Union Fabrics:

BJMC has set up a pilot project namely "Development of Decorative Fabric" (DDF) in the Karnafuli Jute Mills in` Chittagong under EEC Grant to produce decorative fabrics with jute and other blended yarn. This fabrics are widely used as curtains, upholstery, rugs and in making different types of fashion hand bags and ladies bags, carry bags etc.

Foodgrade Jute Bags:

Traditionally jute fibre used to be treated with mineral based Jute Batching Oil (JBO). The hydrocarbon contained in the mineral oil was found to be contaminating the food grain or other food products packed in those bags. To avoid the contamination. BJMC started treating the raw jute with vegetable oil to produce foodgrade jute bags as per IJO Standard 98/01which has revolutionized the old concept. Now a great many countries have standardized their import of bags to be treated or processed with vegetable oil meeting IJO Standard.

Foodgrade Jute Bags

Printed Bags
Jute Intermediate Bulk Container (JIBC):

Revolutionary changes have taken place in bulk handling of cargo and also for the civil instruction and mining industry. Potential markets exist in intermediate bulk carrying of id, cement, and gravel/pebbly materials in the construction sties of roads/highways, ildings, dams, reservoirs etc. It has been found convenient and economical to lay instruction materials in series along the construction site in a weight range of 500 kg to 1500 kg. In specialised mining industry also intermediate bulk carriers are handy and economical. In disastrous or target areas it has been found convenient to carry relevant materials in bulk carriers.
meet the above specialised requirements, BJMC has developed jute intermediate ulk carrier with or without spout at the bottom to carry 500 kg to 1000 kg of cargo.Typical bag characteristics:

Material : 100% good quality jute having special fabricconstruction
Bag size : 120 cm x 90 cm x 90 cm or of customerised size with easy lifting rope.
Bag weight : 5 kg to 10 kg (depending on fabric and bag size).

Pre-Fabricated Jute Fibre Drain:

A pre-fabricated jute fibre drain has recently been developed by BJMC to withstand - (1) High-density stresses and (2) High energy impact in surface fields of soft clay, loose soil, slits and peaty deposits. In addition to satisfying the above dual requirement of soil consolidation, the developed fibre drain is also eeo-friendly, natural and biodegradable.
Some of the characteristics of the lute fibre dram are :

Jute Deco and Consumer Products
Jute NURSERY Sheets and Pots :

Nursery pots made of polyethylene are being used for germination and growing seedlings of seasonal and floral plants before they are transplanted in permanent locations. It has been found that as many as 30 to 50 per cent of young plants get injured and damaged when the wrapping or pots are removed for re-plantation, which has proved not to be practicable and economical but hazardous as well. Taking these factors into consideration, BJMC has developed alternative jute nursery/sapling pots by giving jute fabrics time Dependent chemical treatment to increase the longevity of the pots. With these jute nursery pots, transplantation to permanent locations can be directly made in the soil thereby saving time and considerable loss of expensive nursery plants and saplings from subsequent handling.

Roots of the plants in the nursery pots can easily pass through the pots and expand in the soil. Excessive water can also come out of the jute nursery pots easily. It is, thus, hoped that jute nursery pots and sheets will have voluminous use all over the world and hopefully pen newer avenues of eco-friendly jute.

Matgerials : Pre-fabricated and treated jute fabric having different pore sizes and longevity
having eco-friendly chemical treatment.
Size and shape : Cylindrical/pocket shape or as per users requirement.
Life span : Life span Normal life span of jute nursery pot/sheet is 3 to 6 months or
more depending on treatment.
